Our Advocacy Priorities for 2024

In 2024, NAWBO continues to champion policies that enable women business owners to thrive. Our advocacy agenda focuses on ensuring that women entrepreneurs have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.

Areas of Focus

We advocate for a legal definition of "microbusinesses" that encompasses businesses with fewer than 50 employees and less than $5 million in annual revenue. This includes establishing a Microbusiness Loan Pilot Program, providing loans of up to $100,000 to facilitate growth and scalability for microbusinesses.

Addressing the persistent challenge of access to capital for women entrepreneurs is a priority. NAWBO supports policies that enhance financial literacy and provide tools for women business owners to effectively manage and grow their businesses, fostering strong relationships with financial institutions and leveraging digital tools for expansion.

Access to Capital

3

  • Independent Contractors: We support the right of small businesses to engage independent contractors, which provides necessary flexibility for operations and growth.

  • Paid Family Leave: NAWBO is pursuing bipartisan solutions that offer small businesses affordable paid family leave programs beneficial to both employers and employees.

  • Recruitment & Retention: We advocate for improved access to federal and state benefit portals, enabling small businesses to offer competitive benefits that help level the playing field with larger corporations.

Workforce Solutions

2

  • Affordable Healthcare: Many small businesses face obstacles in providing healthcare benefits due to high costs. We are advocating for affordable healthcare options that empower women-owned businesses to offer coverage to their employees.

  • Childcare Solutions: Reliable and flexible childcare is essential for women entrepreneurs. NAWBO is pushing for policies that address child care needs for business owners and their employees, promoting economic productivity and business growth.
