THE NEED TO SUPPORT PUBLIC POLICY
Robyn Crigger, CEO Compass Career Management Solutions/OI Partners
When I was a new business owner, my priorities were learning the basics to get a business started and attaining clients and income. However, once I began marketing, it became clear that though we had a quality company, that wasn’t enough to get business. There are lots of challenges and hurdles, as well as competitors. In addition, just selecting or locating necessary business legalities and resources could be difficult. Then once your company does earn some good income, the government seems to be there with their hands out. Learning your rights and responsibilities as an owner becomes even more important than ever.
I am thankful to live in the United States where there are good opportunities, but responsible owners also need to be informed and aware of resources, requirements, legalities, etc. in connection to our government. If you don’t stay informed or speak up, you can’t complain about rules and regulations.
With so many women business owners in America, we need to come together, via NAWBO, and make our needs and concerns known to our governing body. This can be accomplished by talking to your legislators and attending Public Policy Days held in Washington D.C. in February. The Public Policy Conference brings leading legislators and representatives for the President to listen to your comments, etc. This is your chance to speak up and share concerns. Small businesses make up a huge portion of U.S. citizens. It’s time to learn more about your rights and make your voice heard with other entrepreneurs.
