Why I Care About Pubic Policy

By Cathy Critz – FYS Solutions

I care about the future financial health and safe keeping of my business, Solutions FYS, just as I care and plan for my personal financial health and safety. One may think that these two are related only because I am a woman business owner, but that would be only partially correct. Public policy, those governmental laws, plans, and actions, can surely impact my business' access to funds and contracts, but public policy reaches further, much further into my personal
future.

Decisions made at local, state and federal levels regarding safety, violence, insurance, and inheritance can protect me, or increase the risk of harm or loss to me and my family. Caring to me is not just a feeling or state of mind; it is a way of life.

My exposure to Public Policy has early roots with the Business and Professional Women of NC, an organization I joined prior to being a business owner. Involvement at the local and national level of NAWBO has further refined and directed my involvement and commitment to learning more of public policy's impact, and driving me to support those people and policies that match my goals and beliefs.
